Alex Sanders is an Associate Attorney at New Mexico Financial & Family Law, P.C., where he brings a decade of legal experience and a deep commitment to serving others. With a foundation rooted in public service, advocacy, and cultural engagement, Alex offers a thoughtful, well-rounded approach to every case he handles.
Alex began his legal career in Tennessee as a full-time legal assistant while completing his undergraduate degree in English Literature. During that time, he also served in leadership roles within Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., organizing community initiatives including the university’s first fraternity-led breast cancer walk. By age 23, he was appointed Deputy and later Principal Courtroom Clerk for Shelby County’s Civil Circuit Court Division 4, earning county-wide recognition as Employee of the Month in his first month.
Motivated to expand his impact, Alex earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, where he was named an Intercultural Competency Fellow and joined the American Inns of Court. During law school, he completed clerkships in family, fiduciary, and personal injury law and was elected President of the Black Law Student Association. Under his leadership, the organization hosted a widely attended bail reform forum featuring Civil Rights Attorney Benjamin Crump, Equal Justice Now, and police chiefs from across the country.
After relocating to New Mexico, Alex served in both the Second and First Judicial District Attorney’s Offices. In these roles, he managed domestic violence dockets, served as the prosecution’s representative for drug and wellness courts, and contributed to Santa Fe’s Strangulation Task Force. His legal expertise includes oral advocacy, appellate and dispositive motion drafting, case analysis, and client-focused legal strategy. His professional mission is to deliver practical, effective solutions with transparency and integrity, always prioritizing the client’s long-term goals.
Adopted from state custody in 1999, Alex was raised in New York City by parents who instilled in him a love for education, culture, and service. Outside of the courtroom, Alex is a multifaceted creative and lifelong learner. He plays violin, piano, guitar, and cello, has traveled to 21 countries, and enjoys hiking, reading, collecting vinyl records, and unwinding with classic video games—particularly Pokémon.
Alex holds a bachelor’s degree in English Literature with a concentration in British Literature and a minor in Spanish. He is licensed to practice law in the state of New Mexico and is the proud recipient of the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award, honoring his leadership and service in law school. With every case, Alex strives to be a trusted advocate—valued for his candor, commitment, and unwavering dedication to justice.
